So during my first semester at Fuller I was sitting in a Foundations of Ministry lecture and the prof asked the class to start naming common analogies we have heard applied to the church. Students responded with things like “the bride,” “the body of Christ,” and “house of God,” with the professor commenting after each one. In good faith, I raised my hand and said “sinking ship” as that was honestly the analogy I had most often heard people refer to when speaking of the church. I got a dirty look and the professor calling on the next student. I think that was the moment I realized it was going to be important to speak up in class.
